Drainage Solutions

Standing water, soggy lawns and wet basements, fixed at the source.

Overview

What it is, and why it matters

North Jersey’s clay soil holds water. Add downspouts dumping next to the foundation and a yard that slopes the wrong way, and you get puddles that won’t drain, dead grass and wet basements.

We find where the water comes from and where it can go, then build the right fix: regrading, French drains, downspout extensions or dry wells.

The process

Exactly how we do it

Every step, so you know what you’re getting and why it’s done that way.

  1. 01

    Diagnose

We watch where water collects and test how the yard slopes.

  2. 02

    Plan the outlet

Water needs somewhere to go: a lower part of the property, a dry well or another legal outlet.

  3. 03

    Dig the trench

Sloped at least about 1% (1/8 inch per foot) so water flows on its own.

  4. 04

    Install fabric, stone and pipe

Filter fabric, clean drainage stone and perforated pipe that collects water along the whole run.

  5. 05

    Restore the surface

Covered with stone or topsoil and seed or sod.

The labor & equipment

A 2 to 4-person crew with a mini excavator or trencher. Most residential drains take 1 to 3 days.

Care tips

How to get the most out of it

Simple things you can do between visits, including how and when to water.

Keep outlets and gutters clear

Clogged gutters and blocked drain outlets are the most common reason drainage stops working.

Check after big storms

Walk the yard after heavy rain to make sure water is moving where it should.

Plant with care

Avoid planting trees with aggressive roots directly over drain lines.

Good to know

Common questions about drainage

What is a French drain?

A trench with a perforated pipe surrounded by stone and fabric. Water seeps in along the whole length and flows away to a safe outlet.

Why is water pooling against my house?

Usually the ground slopes toward the foundation or downspouts drain right next to it. The ground should drop about 6 inches over the first 10 feet away from the house.

FAQ

Working with us

Will a French drain fix my wet basement?

Often it helps a lot when the water comes from the yard surface. Water coming through the foundation itself may also need a waterproofing contractor.
